Arkansas River 12-Inch Pipeline Installation

Little Rock, Arkansas

Binkley & Barfield was chosen to provide turnkey engineering and support services for CenterPoint Energy for the installation of 3,800 LF of 12” natural gas pipeline under the Arkansas River in Little Rock, Pulaski County, Arkansas. The existing 12” pipeline was located on the Broadway Street bridge (Hwy 708) crossing the Arkansas River and was required to be relocated due to a bridge replacement by the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department (AHTD).

The proposed pipeline and facilities were designed for future growth and future upgrade to a high pressure system. A buried mainline block valve, with by-pass, was installed on each side of the river in addition to in-line control valves to provide operational functionality of the system.  The block valves were installed for manual operation, but were designed for future upgrade to remote operation.
Binkley & Barfield established a route suitable for the 2,600 foot River crossing, while keeping an economical plan to tie back into the existing system. This successful project was featured in the CenterPoint Energy News Quarterly and Binkley & Barfield was recognized as delivering an on point estimate of construction services.
