Port of Houston Authority Woodhouse Terminal

Galena Park, Texas

The Port of Houston Authority Woodhouse projects consisted of multiple projects to allow construction companies of various sizes the ability to pursue work with the Port of Houston. Each individual project varied in size and complexity. The projects included the rehabilitation of existing roll on/ roll off dock and replacement of a failed sheet pile bulkhead. The time from the initial conception of the project to the solicitation of engineering services the site conditions had changed substantially with the sheet pile bulkhead yielding far beyond the limit of its initial failure.

Binkley & Barfield, Inc. was able to provide a solution that was able to provide a suitable loading ramp with no abrupt changes in geometry that had been shown in the initial conception. One of the smaller packages included engineering solutions for parking lot rehabilitation where Binkley & Barfield, Inc. proposed solutions of using existing material as base providing a cost savings for the client. Another smaller package Binkley & Barfield, Inc. provided was the demolition of an existing building located on the site.

The second of the larger packages was the splash zone painting and structural repair of three docks adjacent to the roll on/ roll off facility. Binkley & Barfield, Inc. inspected 5 lower tie beams, 12 upper beams and slab for 77 bays documenting each area of distress with photos and providing a proper repair solution for each individual location. Additional Woodhouse projects included Binkley & Barfield, Inc. Project Managers working with local firms to provide engineering solutions and bid package for HVAC and painting renovations to an existing building.
