Traffic & Tollway Design
![]() |
BBI provided strategic planning and careful evaluation of the problems of the Westpark Tollway expansion.
With over 370,000 vehicles daily flowing through the US 59 and IH 610 Interchange in Houston, BBI successfully completed the project while maintaining consistent traffic control, zero drainage hydraulic impact to the vicinity and coordination with area transporation organizations.
The scope of services provided by Binkley & Barfield, Inc included:
- route and design studies
- field survey
- roadway design controls
- drainage design
- and bridge design.
The project included thirteen direct connectors, US 59 mainlane, and HOV bridges to take bi-directional toll road traffic and frontage road traffic under the existing US 59/IH 610 interchange. Storm water runoff was mitigated through the design of two detention basins located within the interchange. Two pump stations were designed to discharge the storm water to an existing outfall structure adjacent to the project. The use of drilled shaft retaining walls allows for future bridge foundations to be located behind the walls and were also used for bridge abutment foundations.
The Westpark Tollway and US 59/IH 610 Interchange project involved complex criteria to be addressed in an effective, cost conscious manner. The fast track construction included thirteen mainlanes, HOV and direct connector bridges, complex traffic control for the US 59/IH 610 Interchange, zero drainage hydraulic impact to the vicinity of the interchange, detention basins, complex design and construction coordination.
