Holderrieth Road Extension
Harris County, Texas
The project length is approximately 8,554 LF (1.62 miles). The proposed roadway will provide access to the future Harris County Annex 17 facilities and will be designed in concurrence with the annex site development, as well as HCED and HCFCD requirements.
This project involved the reconstruction of an existing gravel access road to a 4-lane concrete roadway section with a center Low Impact Development (LID) ditch, 10-inch thick reinforced concrete pavement and outside roadside swales within a 100-foot ROW from Tomball Tollway (SH 249) to HCFCD Channel M125-00-00. The remaining section from Channel M125-00-00 to the western end of the project at 1,200 west of Calvert Road was new construction. This portion of the roadway also incorporated a 4-lane concrete roadway section with a center LID ditch, 10-inch thick reinforced concrete pavement and outside roadside swales within a 100-foot ROW. The LID features also included bioswales, vegetated swales, or bioretention. The LID design assisted with detaining within the ROW as well as enhancing the overall natural aesthetic look of the area.
Drainage improvements included utilizing the center LID ditch for roadway detention, setting the PGL to ensure that one traffic lane will always be above the 25-year WSE and passable, the utilization of a regional detention pond for floodplain mitigation serving the Harris County Improvements District No. 17 and the Willow Creek Industrial Park and constructing channel crossings at existing channel M125-00-00 and proposed channel M124-00-00.
