US 290 improvements were being delayed by a Qwest Line that could not be found. This delay was endangering the project schedule. Numerous attempts by various companies failed to locate the Qwest Line. No one could overcome the challenges of the Qwest Line being over 23’ deep and at the edge of the active high speed off ramp. One company even closed the off ramp and tried trenching perpendicular to the Qwest Line. This also failed. TxDOT called upon BBI’s Subsurface Utility Engineering Department (SUE) to come out and use their 3D Technology to find the horizontal and vertical position of the Qwest Line. What had been over six months of delays from previous locating attempts was resolved in just three days by BBI and their use of Dual Spar 3D Technology.
