BBI provided construction management including utility coordination and utility inspection services on segments 10B, 11 and 12 for the US 290 Highway Improvement project. As a whole, the three segments consist of 11.56 miles of construction to include roadway widening with storm sewers, culverts, structures, continuous reinforced concrete pavement, signage, signals and computer traffic management system.

BBI served as the liaison between TxDOT, the prime consultant and the 13 utility companies within the project limits. A majority of the utilities’ facilities run longitudinally throughout the corridor with several mainlane crossings. In addition to utility coordination and inspection, BBI was contracted to perform Level A SUE test holes to assist in determining the location of communication lines in conflict with the proposed storm sewer and inlets. After BBI provided a conflict analysis, it was determined that a redesign of the proposed storm sewer and inlets would benefit the project’s schedule and will be cost effective more than the time it would take to relocate the utilities.
